5A Student Updates

ISU Tour

During our time spent at ISU we took a tour of the grounds. We went to the robotics lab and they let us see the ABB robots and how they work. We also got to see a glimpse of the Watterson Towers, the second tallest dorm in our nation. We saw the Turner Hall and the football stadium that was recently redone. We also got the chance to see the plastics lab where they make all sorts of plastics. The plastic starts out as a tiny pieces of plastic that eventually will get melted together in a mold and turn into a piece of plastic. We also got to see the quad, a place for college students to play, run and get fresh air. Along with this we got to see the outside of the library where students can pick up a book or two to read. The Gamma Phi circus came and put on a juggling show which rocked but not it wasn't good as the lunch. We had so much fun going to ISU and we cannot wait until our next opening doors event happens THANKS PROMISE COUNCIL.

Social Studies

In 5A we are working on a play to find out who really discovered america first. We are in the middle of watching a video that is filled with very interesting things that all the students are very engaged in. We will soon start rehearsing a play About who discovered america. Every student has one of the six men that claim they discovered america first. In the play we will defend our sides trying to make people believe that they were in america first! We will have the opportunity to dress up with thing made at home. All of the students are very excited and anxious to start this project. We all now know that Christopher Columbus was not the first to America but then who was? I am a viking one of the six people who believe they were first, I’m the leader of the viking pack too! This project is our first play in fifth grade and many of us want to start we have also research at home and are taking a big interest in this topic! Be sure to ask your student at home about this project because i'm sure they will have a LOT to say about it!!!!!

THEIR, THEY’RE, AND THERE

We all got in groups and made posters based off of the three words that we all get mixed up.The words we get mixed up are there They’re and their. We learned that they are homophones. So I got in a group with Maggie, Catelyn, Jaxsyna, and Miguel. We made a poster based off the topic of sports. I drew the football with the goal-post around it. Maggie made the words with the meanings. Mostly because everybody was gone or split up. Its a fun time in our day to work with friends and talk.

ISU Speakers

When we did our ISU tour we got to listen to some speakers that go to ISU like the Girls and Boys Basketball players, trio, and many more. After they were done talking and describing what their little club or something is about then we got to ask questions how much time a day do you practice or how much fun is trio. We also got to see some of their circus acts like juggling. Their name is gamma phi. We also got to meet/ see the agriculture club and we learned that ISU has its own farm and its only 20 minutes away from ISU. They use those animals to learn about them and how to be a vet and many other things about the animals. We got to see so many things that day that there are so much more things I could say, but I have to go so see you next time on Miss. Armstrong's blog.
