Colonial simulation

For social studies we did a colonial times simulation. We went to many stations like the governor's palace, and the shoemaker shop. At the shoemaker's shop we traced someones foot on paper and then we cut it out. At the slave quarters we learned the song juba juba. We also got to write on paper with a toothpick dipped in black paint and we got to sew. We also got to accept and reject bills and we listened to something outside in the church. We also visited the tavern where we played games.

Slavery play

Maggie point of view

I thought that the play was really well worked on (from scratch).

It included handmade props.( a.k.a white boards and pencils with paper on it).

The 4th grade did plays too they were cool too. They did not make it, the play was premade.

Jack’s point of view

Me, Shelby, Grace, Kylee, and TJ made a play called Runaway Slave. We made this from scratch it took about 3 weeks to finish it. We all had a pretty big part in this play. TJ was the slave and I was an overseer. Shelby was a master and Kylee was an auctioneer and an overseer and grace was a master. When we did the play in 4C we had to first watch there play after that we went up I was scared but it was really fun.

BACC

Fifth grade went on a field trip to the Bloomington Area Career Center. There we tried out different jobs that we might want in the future. I went to Digital Media, Automotive engineering, And Criminal Justice. At Digital Media we came in and learned that they edit pictures and put them on shirts and other stuff. We were able to take pictures and edit them. Then I went to Automotive Engineering. There we learned how to check oil and batteries for things there. After that we went to Criminal Justice. There we watched their class and they were going through a case of who was the victim after a fight happened. One girl didn't do a good job looking and missed some objects in the crime scene. So the teacher made me Jack and Mason decide her grade. After that it was time to leave. It was really fun and I also saw my mom who works there. It was awesome! -Jono

Young Authors

We are starting to write about young authors. If you didn’t know young is coming up soon.

In young authors we all make a story. Mason is writing a story called call of duty. Shelby is writing a story called Frenemies. When its time we all give our stories in to be read by teachers they will give us awards for the best story and so on.

Alien Challenger

This couple of weeks we have been working on a project that includes you making your own Aliens that go with the planet that we got from Miss. Armstrong.

We had to do this because we are going on a field trip in March to a place called Challenger Space Center at Heartland Community College. Our Alien has to adapt to the surroundings on the planet we were given.

Ryan’s group got the planet Mars. Kylee’s group got the planet Venus. Ryan’s group’s Alien has big eyes for seeing in the dark, a big fur coat for the cold temperatures on Mars, suction cup feet for climbing out of craters, filters in it’s throat for separating the dirt and water from the dirt in the ground because Mars has between 1.5% and 3% water in the soil, he also has 1 big tooth to break up the dirt in the ground to get to the water in the soil. Ryan’s alien’s name is B.O.B. (Big Obvious Bloated Creature.)

Kylee’s Alien is called Squid-a-Cyclops because it has big eyes to see through the acid in the clouds, has extra layers of skin so that the acid doesn’t burn off his skin, has slimy Squid legs and feet to help him not get burnt by the fire or lava on Venus.

Musical

We are going to have a musical called Hero’s All. In the musical it talks about a lot of American Heros. these include Jesse Owens, Albert Einstein, Nellie Bly, Booker T. Washington, Hellen Keller, and Charles Lindberg. Earlier, we had auditions. This is because the teacher needed to determine our abilities. There are also speaking, reporter and a child role. This gives the play more effect. The musical’s date is February 9th, at West high school. Some of the actors and actresses even have costumes! We will also get microphones, this is so that our sound will be heard by the people in the back rows. Microphones are a BIG help for musicals. Our teacher , Ms.Johnson, has really been pushing us to memorise our lines and songs for the musical. I am really excited for the musical!

Revolutionary war

Over the past week we have been learning about the revolutionary war and how it started. There is a T.V. show called Liberty’s kids where kids experience the boston tea party and the night

where Paul Revere road on his horse to warn the people the British are coming and the Lexington shooting. It also gives important people in the time and how they are important.
