5A Student Updates
Who was the first person to really discover America?
We got to do a protect on who really discovered America and we got assigned to a character. We had to write down answers for the questions we would be asked on a panel. And then we had to present that character. Then we got to vote on who really discovered America. The character I had was HOEI SHIN. Carson was Christoro Clombo. Ryan, Brendon the Bold won the first round and then Kylee, HOEI SHIN won the second round.
Author's Tone
This week we have talked about author's tone. It is the way the author puts his or her feelings into the text. For instance slanted is one of the ways to show author's tone. Some others are bold, ALL CAPS and underlining. We have to take 2 quotes from the text and explain those quote. This was exposed by a double journal entry or a paragraph summary.
Layers of the Earth
We learned about the 4 layers of earth. The crust, Mantle, inner core, and outer core. We learned that the crust is the skinniest layer and the layer we walk on. The mantle is mostly made of rock.
SSM Buddies
We got buddies from the collaborative classroom. They were really nice and we were very excited when we came into their classroom. Together, we made popcorn hands for fall. We made these by taking a glove and putting candy corn in it for fingernails. After this, we put popcorn into the hands and tied it together with tape. After this, we role played by being characters from the book The Little Old Lady who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything. The characters included: A pair of shoes, a pair of pants, a shirt, a pair of gloves, a hat and a jack o'lantern head. In the story, the little old lady didn’t think anything was scary. Until all the characters that we roleplayed came into the book and scared her. She ended up going back to her house and forgetting about them. That is until they came back and knocked on her door and tried to scare her. They didn’t so they told that they wanted to scare someone. Then, the little old lady gave them a job and that job was to be a scarecrow and scare all of the crows out of the corn field. This ties into the seven habits because they were thinking win win because the old lady wanted the crows to get out of her field and the scary characters wanted to scare someone. We had a really fun time with our buddies. I hope we can do that again!
